Firstly, they are aware of every detail about a very cherished and visible part of your body – your hair and your head. They can tell when you’ve not been taking enough care of either, and always know how to lend a hand in that situation. They are very forgiving, and if you haven’t been taking care of yourself, they will bring back you in shape with a blink of an eye. Secondly, they are good listeners. They will maintain the unsaid code of conduct which includes the confidentiality of your deepest, darkest and ridiculous secrets. Not because they have to, but because they want to. Plus they know the code: What happens in the salon stays in the salon. Further, you don’t even need to mention any names to them. They will listen to all your daily life issues without raising any questions. You know it, no topic will be off-limits because of the trust you’ve built. No need to filter your thoughts as they are one of the most accepting people you would know, or keep your tone in check. All you have to do is just speak your mind freely. A hairstylist is just the one who will accept all your imperfections probably because they deal with something imperfect about you all the time – your hair. There is no doubt about it that that they are the people who are more informed about what’s going on in your area than your local news station. Forget CNN, your hairstylist knows the 411 that you need to know. They will let you talk anything about anyone you want to because your stylist probably doesn’t know anyone you’re talking about, and they love it.
Thirdly, your hairstylist is not judgmental about anything you do in your life. Just one exception exists, and that is your hair. They will give you their honest opinion about your hair and will let you know how you’re always putting their good work to shame. Except their area of expertise, they give you advice when you need it and are not just there to let you ‘figure it out on your own’. They will give you advice when you need it the most. Listening about your current dates and relationships are practically part of their service. Unlike several people in your life, they never get tired of your continuous venting. They know what amount of love and affection you need as soon as you walk in and approach them. Sometimes that means going easy on you, and sometimes that means yelling at you in front of everyone to, “Get your shit together.”
Lastly, they are your guides. They are there to there to remind you of your values even when you’ve forgotten them. “Oh no honey, uh oh. You know that’s a deal breaker. Stop seeing that guy/girl.” They will stay late, answer your 911 emergency-I-need-you-to-fix-my-hair calls, and go the extra mile. Mainer times, they’ll give you way more than your money’s worth. They always tell you, help you in enhancing your inner strength. They make you believe that you’re beautiful and remind you that in one or the other way that taking care of yourself can also uplift you to the emotional, mental, and spiritual level. They always have the best life tit-bits and wisdom. And you will hang on their every word. Because anyone who intimately knows the ins and outs of something as precious as your hair is the Nick Vujicic of your life.
