Reasons Why People Are Happier Being Green

Reasons Why People Are Happier Being Green

Being green doesn’t just help the environment, you know. Changing your habits, whether at home or at work, can help to improve your well being and your frame of mind too. Changing a few simple habits can massively improve the environment in which we live as well as making us happier as a person.

It’s common knowledge nowadays that we need to try and conserve our planet as much as possible; with fossil fuels dwindling, global warming increasing and carbon emissions at a monumental scale, it’s essential that we take action now to try and keep climate change under control – if not for our benefit, then for future generations.

As a developed country, the high consumption lifestyle we live is having a negative impact on the environment but that doesn’t mean there’s no hope. By being more ecological, we can value what we have rather than wasting energy we don’t need to waste. This is valid for home life and whilst at the workplace, too.

  • Spend as little time travelling as possible. If you’re in the middle of contemplating a move, consider somewhere closer to schools and work. You’ll spend less time on the road, giving you more time to spend with family and friends which, naturally, will make you happier as well as reducing the amount of fuel you’ll need to use to get around.
  • By swapping a car journey for something that involves exercise, not only are you reducing your fuel consumption but you’re also having a positive impact on your health. Exercise is invigorating, no matter what it’s form. Whether you walk, cycle or skateboard, you’re affecting your wellbeing in a positive way. Obesity is becoming the UK’s number one health concern – small changes can help to tackle the issue, now.
  • Greener thinking tends to mean less materialism, meaning that there’s less drain on resources and less consumption. Choosing to spend money on experiences rather than things can improve the wellbeing of an individual and saving money on your energy bills can free up the money to do that.
  • The knowledge that we are contributing to a safer, greener environment will intrinsically make us feel happier. If everyone did their bit for the environment, the world would be a happier place.

Managing an office, you will have the responsibility for organising business energy from British Gas or another competitor. By being savvy and reducing the business’ energy consumption, you can massively reduce your overheads while also having a positive impact on the planet. Have you stuck to your energy resolutions? If not, take this opportunity to get back into the swing of things and be proactive at work – your staff will soon follow suit.
