The MAT Examination

The apex body, the All India Management Association (AIMA) conducts this exam. The AIMA also hosts a number of activities related to the field of management. The testing and the other management services related to the exam are taken care of by Centre for Management Services, which is a division of AIMA.

Candidates appearing for MAT have the option of sitting for a computer-based test or pen and paper test. This is what makes MAT different from CAT which is solely a computer-based exam.

MAT has been approved by the Ministry of HRD as one of the National Entrance Tests for management courses. Candidates who have completed their graduation in any discipline are eligible to sit for the MAT. They can fill up the application online, on the official website of AIMA by paying an application fee of INR 1,400/-. The payment can be made online or offline through a demand draft.

The Exam Pattern

The MAT exam comprises multiple choice questions, and the total duration of the exam is about 2.5 hours. The test is designed in such a way that it helps to test the general aptitude of the candidate.

MAT exam has the below-mentioned sections.

  1. Language Comprehension – 40 Marks
  2. Mathematical Skills – 40 Marks
  3. Data Analysis and Sufficiency – 40 Marks
  4. Intelligence and Critical Reasoning – 40 Marks
  5. Indian and Global Environment – 40 Marks
