When it comes to woodworking and DIYing a piece of furniture, most people get scared and think that something like that is way out of their skill league. Well the truth is, depending on what you opt for of course, but that really isn’t true. There are multiple projects suited for novices, and as practice makes perfect, with time you will get better and better and be able to tackle on even bigger projects. What’s fun about this is that it doesn’t have to be a one-person job, so you can call your friend or spouse for help. It can be a fun activity together and the end result will be awesome.
Before you start any project involving wood, however, make sure that you have all the necessary supplies. Check the shopping list and required tools for your preferred project and see what you’re missing. Don’t forget about all the small essential stuff like measuring tape, sandpaper, plumb and other necessary things we usually end up missing.
X Table
If you live in a house, you most probably have some extra fence posts lying around in your garage. Well utilize those to make a simple but cute and which can be used both outdoors and indoors. If you’re lacking a night table, this might be a perfect solution. The nice thing is that you can leave it as is, el natural, or paint it over to match the color scheme of your room. Try painting it a pastel color and putting a nice vase with flowers on it, you will love the feeling. Be sure to follow the detailed instructions and you will have no problem making this easy project.
Creative Shipping Pallets
These are fairly easy to come by. If you haven’t moved recently or had anything shipped, just check with your local supermarkets, they must have a tone lying around. Depending on how creative you are, or how much time you’ve spend browsing the internet you can easily get at least a few ideas of what to do with these things. From storage racks to desks and even base ground for beds, there are so many things that can be made by upcycling old pallets. Just take your hammers, measuring tape, and other tools you need and start designing. Try using cordless screwdrivers to make the process easier and faster.
Storage Boxes
This one can be called a double agent. These are perfect for your kids’ room and they can double as a chair for their creative space and as storage for books, toys or other similar things. You can design them anyway you like, but we would suggest you leave one side open so that the interior of the box can show and will bring a special flare to the style of the room. If you opt for this version, all you need are 5 equal square pieces of wood and another one that will match the width but not the height of the other ones. Attach those together firmly using a drill, leaving one side half open to put the stuff inside and then decide whether you want to put wheels on the bottom or not. In either case, all that is left to do is paint it and voila.
