The Ins and Outs of Fleet Vehicle Maintenance

Maintaining a fleet of vehicles, like for a limo service, can be a daunting task. The work on the automobile air conditioning systems alone is a very large undertaking. Luckily, there are several things you can do on a regular basis to reduce the chance that these systems will break down. After all, a failing cooling system would be unacceptable for clients in the heat of summer.

A few simple line-of-sight checks are handy to know. Check the tension of the drive belt and for whether there is blocked air flow from either the radiator or condenser. Look for any visible refrigerant oil stains around the hoses, pipes, compressor, or other fittings. Also check for loose or faulty compressor mounting brackets or missing service port caps.

If you find any of these indicators during a visual inspection, you will need to address them immediately as part of your ongoing maintenance. There are low-cost, excellent quality AC parts available should you need to replace parts or products which can be really helpful when you have many vehicles to look after.

Make sure you run the air conditioner for about 5-10 minutes on max cool and the highest fan setting once per week. This will reduce the occurrence of hardening hoses or failure of the compressor seals. Also running the defrost mode will get rid of accumulated moisture in the AC unit. Doing this will eliminate mildew and the dirty-wet-cloth odor that can build up in the system.

It’s a good idea to do a full service on each vehicle’s air conditioning system every two years or so. This would include recharging the refrigerant gas and replacing oil and lubricants which can be found from online retailers at affordable prices. If any other parts such as hoses, belts or the Auto AC Compressor Parts need to be replaced, the two year service is a good time to be proactive. If the compressor does need replacing, consider quality remanufactured models which helps reduce costs and helps the environment.

Some other parts that might need replacement include the Schrader valves and receiver drier filter. These are also available online at affordable prices. Adding UV dye to the refrigerant mix can help with leak detection and is a good preventative maintenance trick to have up your sleeve when you have multiple cars to look after. You’ll want to have a UV lamp and an electronic refrigerant sniffer on hand to help with these checks.

Finally, consider having an Ozone machine on hand to treat the cooling evaporator and the car cabin filter to kill any fungus or bacteria that has a tendency to build up in automobile air conditioning systems. It is an unfortunate fact that these AC units can be fertile ground for bugs to develop which can affect your clients who suffer from allergies or asthma. Treating the system with an Ozone machine will leave the car cabin smelling wonderfully clean and fresh.

No matter how many vehicles you have to take care of, remember to check with online retailers to find quality Auto Air Conditioning Parts and products at the affordable prices you need to keep rolling. Finding what you want is easier than you might think.
