Rat Race To Country Escape
The lure of country air and running a successful small business venture in the great outdoors, for some, is an idyllic lifestyle. For Julie & Richard Arme from Yorkshire, this is a reality.
With their children all grown up and new-found time on their hands, Julie & Richard Arme wanted to do something completely different – a life change prior to retirement. Their aim was to quit the rat race and to enjoy life at a different pace.
So when newly-weds Julie & Richard recently moved to the Vale of York, they created a brand new glamping venture with yurts and a log cabin, called Acorn Glade.
The couple moved into their new home in Melbourne near York in 2013 having spent most of their lives with high-flying city careers and bringing up families. Julie & Richard decided that the time was right to take a step back and do something that they enjoyed. So they made a complete life change, an escape to the country.
Richard, who previously worked in the City of London said: “It’s like a dream come true. I’d rather be toiling in the fields in the evening than commuting home by train any day”.
Acorn Glade is a grown-ups only glamping site, with a motto of ‘Retreat, Relax and Reconnect’. Retreat away from it all at a really tranquil location; Relax at an exclusive couples only hideaway; and Reconnect with nature and each other.
Julie, who previously worked as a Building Surveyor and Civil Engineer in the construction industry, said: “We both have had children, so we know what it’s like bringing up children. Just sometimes you need to get away with your partner to rekindle your relationship; and without other people’s children there”.
At Acorn Glade there’s no children, no pets and a wi-fi free zone! Guests are encouraged to enjoy the peace and quiet of the local wildlife site and beautiful lakeside setting. Furthermore, the ethos is very much about green sustainability, with the business running on solar power and air-source heat pumps.
Julie & Richard are really proud of what they have achieved since opening a year ago. It’s taken a lot of hard work, but it seems that they have crafted something romantic, unique and tranquil, which is loved by both guests and owners.
