Interior Design Trends For 2025
The new year is almost upon us and the need to redesign your home comes with it.
Biophilic Design
This design is centred around bringing in as much nature inside as possible to create a seamless transition between the outside world and our indoor living space. The trend is also about natural light, plants and organic materials that inherently make us feel good physically, mentally and emotionally.
Plants are linked to better air quality within your homes but also are said to reduce stress and I can understand why. We are mammals at the end of the day so being outside makes us feel good and it is good for us so it makes complete sense that adding natural elements to your home is a perfect solution.
This is an affordable interior design element to add to your home in 2025 so I would recommend starting your collection of plants now to ensure your home is full of life through 2025.
Multifunctional Spaces
You might be wondering what is meant by this but it’s essentially making the most out of all the space we have. Multipurpose living spaces combine functionality and cost-effective solutions. The world is constantly changing so by encouraging multifunctional, it opens up a significant portion of your square footage for equipment and gear storage.
It’s an interesting trend that is emerging due to the rise of remote working and this makes sense as people need to place an office within their space so the need for interior design and multifunctional spaces is more paramount.
Look into convertible furniture so you are getting more use of the pieces and space, whether it be a tuck-away desk, sofa bed and so forth.
Green Designs
Sustainability is a key motivator for most modern home designs and for good reason. If you are creating changes to your home, you want it to have minimal impact on the environment. Green design is all about minimising the impact on the environment through incorporating more eco-friendly materials as well as striving for a more energy-efficient design and solutions.
This could include adding solar panels, better placements of heating to ensure, eco-friendly insulation and so much more. Green designs think more about the environment than the overall aesthetics of the external. There are little things you can do every day to be more environmentally conscious and if you are considering a redesign, I would recommend considering green designs to go along with it.
Bold Colours and Patterns
While we have seen greys, beiges and industrial vibes all over 2024, I think a shift back into colour is on its way back. Colour is linked to better mental health and stimulation and just overall boosts your mood when you are surrounded by bright and happy colours. Colourful explosions add character, structure and warmth to a room and it’s a great way to make the most out of smaller spaces.
Vivid tones and couch patterns allow the house to shine but also share your taste with others. You can tailor-make your home to exactly your taste and it’s one of those that can be built naturally over time.
Minimalist Aesthetic
Simplicity, functionality, and the elimination of excess consumption. I guess you can say the world of minimalism mitigates capitalist consumption so this could be the perfect styling option if you want to both cut down on your consumption and keep things quiet in your space. While minimalism inherently idiots clean lines, open space and a neutral colour scheme, you can still have a minimalist but colourful space depending on what you want to combine.
The best part I’ve found from a minimalist living space is that it’s easier to clean as there are fewer things to clean, fewer things in the way of cleaning and just overall a much simpler task to complete.
This doesn’t mean you can’t have any sort of design elements; it’s just a lot softer so you can accumulate a stack of cushion covers that are both versatile and luxurious.
Vintage and Retro Elements
It’s no surprise that elements from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s are still brought back into modern home designs because if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. There are so many unique things that come from the past and elements that you don’t see with modern designs. A few of my favourites are the sunken floors, jazzy carpets, furniture and even lighting. Vintage furniture brings an authentic story and vibe from these eras, but at the same time, back then, the future and so forth were made with so much more care and attention and they last a lifetime because of that.
Colour Trends For 2025
Dark Earthy Tones
Throughout 2024, we’ve seen endless appeal for dark, earthy tones to create both a natural and cosy space. I’ve seen these colours used within living rooms and dining rooms, as this colour compliments dark wood, which you would usually see in these spaces. This would look great along with a biophilic design.
These colours are bound to come into their own as soon as fall hits, especially if you have more dark elements within your home. I would invest in some good lighting to bring some brightness during the darker months.
Red
The red theory branches beyond the fashion scene and is being added into homes through little elements. Whether it be your skirting boards or wooden frames to add pops of colour without swallowing the whole room.
Light Blues and Greens
A colour trend that I am very much behind is the soft blues and greens used along with a neutral colour palette. Although pared-back, these understated hues are a great way to add more interest to rooms while remaining neutral and chic.
Colour Drenching
Lastly, although it’s not a specific colour palette, I had to include colour drenching in the emerging trends that can be expected in 2025. Colour drenching is incorporating multiple shades of one colour in a room. Like a monochrome outfit but with a room; you can do this with a whole room, so I would recommend picking a really neutral, soft colour so your greens, oranges, pinks, yellows and blues are in softer shades and then you can darken up with smaller pieces and furniture.
Final Thoughts
When it comes to jumping ahead of the interior trends, this is the perfect guide to help you form your own unique interior selections. Pick elements you resonate with and form your own safe space that resonates with what makes you happy, your style and personality. It’s important to think outside the box and not stick to ‘trends.’ These fast become outdated, overdone, and boring to the eye. I would always recommend that you pick fabrics that are timeless.
