5 Signs it’s Time to Seek Therapy
There is a misconception that counselling in Victoria BC is only needed if a person has serious mental health issues or crazy in simpler terms. It may surprise you to hear that most people could benefit from therapy at some point in their lives. This doesn’t mean you should be seeking help for every little struggle that life throws your way, usually a good support system of family and friends is all you need. There are some clear signs that a therapist might be a good idea to seek out the help of a professional.
- Feeling sad, angry or just not yourself, feelings of hopelessness that aren’t going away may indicate it’s time to see a therapist. If you’re sleeping or eating more than usual , withdrawing from family and friends and just not enjoying your usual activities it may be time to talk things out with a therapist. - Abusing alcohol, drugs, food or using sex to cope and temporarily make you feel better is a sign you could use better coping skills. Especially if you feel unable to control these behaviours or can’t quit despite any negative consequences they may have on your life. - Some type of trauma has happened, those with a history of abuse, neglect or trauma that hasn’t been properly dealt with, or you find yourself the victim of crime or an accident, chronic illness are times when treatment from a therapist can be helpful.
You can’t do the things you usually like to do, if you find yourself avoiding the activities that are normally enjoyable and can’t figure out why therapy can be helpful. Many people find that painful emotions and experiences keep them isolated from getting out and having fun and meeting new people.
