This is not the first operation of its kind as it has been there since the year 2013 as the civilian agencies and the federal military had identified criminals. The Rangers with the support of the security forces were empowered by the federal cabinet in dealing with the identified criminals. The reasons that they were empowered to not only investigate but also to prosecute was because they had complained that criminals were never brought to justice as they were released as soon as they were arrested. The Rangers shifted focus from criminals to the militants that have terrorized the country for more than a decade now. This report was confirmed by Abdul Khaliq Shaikh the Director Inspector General-South.
