28-year-old lady, body found inside pond

The death of a young lady, Chinelo Ezenekwe, from Nanka, in Orumba North Local Government Area, Anambra State, whose body was found dead in a pond has continued to raise dust.

The corpse was allegedly found in a pond located at ‘Obu’ palace.

But the Igwe of Nanka, Gilbert Ofosa, who was shocked at the discovery in his obu, has ordered investigation into the sudden death of the factory worker.

This is even when Prince Isaac Ezenekwe is saying that her first daughter was murdered in cold blood and her body dumped in the pond, to deceive people to believe that she committed suicide or slipped and fell into it.

A family source, who identified himself as Prince, alleged that Chinelo was raped before she was murdered, adding that she might have died during the encounter. He disclosed that after noticing that the girl had died, the suspected killers dumped her body in the pond.”

He said: “My sister has no reason to commit suicide. She was working in a pure water factory. She knew the road to her office very well and would not have missed her way and slipped into the pond.

According to him, if the deceased had committed suicide, she would have drunk enough water to make her stomach to bloat.”

He said: “If Chinelo had slipped into the pond by mistake, she would have struggled and her clothes would have indicated that. She was neatly dressed while going to the office, we began to wonder if a 20-year-old lady like her would have gone to the office without wearing under wears, because she was not wearing pant when her body was brought out from the pond.”

He disclosed that her jaw was swollen while there were blood stains, suggesting that she might have been strangulated and tortured to death. Another reason for thinking that Chinelo might have been murdered by someone, who knew her very well was: “The corpse was lying face down in the pond, how could the people who raised the alarm that she was murdered know her identity, without turning her body? We, the family members, did not know it was our daughter until we turned the body.”

Prince disclosed how the deceased had quarrels with some of her colleagues in the office few days before she was murdered. Explaining how the family received the sad news, he said it was a man (names withheld), who came to their house at about 7.00 am to inform them that Chinelo was found dead in a pond. According to him, no one knew if the dastardly act was carried out the previous day or the same Friday that the man came to inform us, because the girl was living alone in a rented apartment.

He said the family rushed to the scene, only to discover that it was their daughter’s body.

He explained that they went to the Igwe to report the incident, before reporting to the police. According to him, when the police took the corpse to the mortuary for autopsy, the mortician complained that her body contained too much chemical. “So, we are suspecting that someone, somewhere is trying to tamper with the investigation.”

He wants the Inspector-General of police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim, to wade into the matter, alleging that the Anambra police command was not handling the matter satisfactorily. A source at the Homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, told Daily Sun that preliminary investigation showed that the detectives have a lot to unrave.

The source said the police were trying to unravel the mystery surrounding her death.“So far, we are suspecting murder, but we are trying to find out who did it and under what circumstances. We are waiting for the autopsy result, which will help us a great deal in knowing what transpired.”
